Sunlit Muse: An Explanation of the Name

Sunlit: adj.: illuminated by the sun.

Muse: noun: a person who is the source of inspiration.

My sister gave me this nickname: Sunlit Muse. Rather than it being a name that describes me, it more describes what I hope to be.

I love the sun. I love the way its rays penetrate the water in slivers of light, how it warms and envelops you on the beach, and the ravishing beauty it gives as it awakens.

Mostly, though, I love the Son. Just as our sun gives light and life, the Son of God has given me light and life. If you don't know about our wonderful Creator, let me give you a quick summary of His story (history).

He created humanity and all the earth (just look at that sunrise - isn't He marvelous?). We, however, wanted to be as powerful as He is, so we disobeyed His command and, just like He had warned, released evil into the world. Since then we have lived in a world prone to selfishness, greed, lust, and pride. Here's the most awful part, though: our sins were (and are) so great that we couldn't pay our debt to God, no matter how hard we tried. He is perfect, and we are not.

But just when we were at our darkest, the Son rose. Yes, I mean literally. God sent His only Son to the earth as the perfect sacrifice. Jesus is His name. He was killed in a terribly painful and brutal way, but, He conquered death for us and rose from the grave on the third day. Since then, anyone who believes in Jesus as their Savior will have everlasting life, just as God had wished. And that is why I wish to be sunlit; illuminated and empowered by the Son who shattered the darkness in my life.

Jesus is my friend, guide, and life-giver. Without Him, I am nothing.

Sunlit Muse: I wish to shine brightly and be an inspiration to others.

I used to keep lots of journals, but, since technology has advanced, it has become a lot more convenient to document memories and adventures here. I want to remember the small moments that make up the extraordinary story of my life on earth, but, like everyone, I have a tendency to forget. So, here I seek to recall the already-read chapters of my life, and in doing so, who knows? You might be able to laugh and learn with me.

Keep on smiling!
